There is a social revolution underway in Rojava, Syria, that presents a living alternative within a region beset by despotic and sectarian politics and exploitative imperialist interventions. Despite portrayals in the commercial media, the people of the Middle East are not passive victims of ISIS terror and State repression.

In Rojava, they propose participatory self- management of the economy, gender liberation and care for the natural world as solutions to the region’s current strife.

Rojava Solidarity Collective-Toronto invites you for an evening of solidarity with Rojava and to celebrate the anniversary of the historic resistance of the people of Kobane against ISIS. Join us to salute the people’s resistance in the Middle East. Rojava’s alternative has shown that another Middle East is possible – a Middle East built from below through the solidarity of its peoples.

Along with exhibiting photographs from Rojava, short videos will be screened, and guest speakers will be present to shed light on many aspects of Rojava Revolution given the current refugee crisis and further militarization of the region. Also, a member of Kobane Reconstruction Board will be present to update us on the process of reconstructing the city and the ways we can help in Toronto.

Music performance by: Shahyriyar Jamishdi, Dilan Ensemble.

This event is organized by Rojava Solidarity Collective-Toronto, and it is endorsed by No One Is Illegal-Toronto, Centre for Social Justice, and Students against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA) at York University.
